The life cycle of a plant describes how long a plant will live and the length of time it takes the plant to grow. There are several types of plants.  Plants are either annual, perennial, or biennial.  The plants life cycle depends on which type they are.  When the plants leave seeds behind the life cycle begins again with those seeds.

Annual- this means that a plant will complete its life cycle in one growing season.  The plant will grow, flower, set seeds, and die all in one growing season. Example: Tomatoes

Perennial- this means the plant can live three or more years.  It will come back each year and grow, flower, and set seeds.

Example: Daisies

Biennial- this means that the plant will need two growing seasons to complete the life cycle.  In the first season it will produce leaves then rest for the winter.  In the spring it will grow again and have flowers, set seeds, and die.

Example: Carrots
