Plants begin as seeds. There are three parts of a seed.  The testa (seed coat) protects the cotyledon (food source) and the embryo (tiny plant).  The cotyledon provides nutrients to the seed because while the seed is in the ground it can't get its energy from the sun. When the seed germinates it forms different parts.  Seeds can be found in flowers, trees, or on the ground. Seeds need water, fresh air, and warm weather to grow.
